What You Can Expect During a Root Canal Procedure

The thought of getting a root canal can cause anxiety for some people. However, with the proper preparation and understanding of the procedure, it doesn’t have to be as intimidating. At One Family Dental in Greenwood, IN, you can trust you will receive top-notch care from Dr. Prasad Sanku when undergoing a root canal. To help alleviate any anxiety that may come with the procedure, we wanted to give you an overview of what to expect when getting a root canal from our skilled dentist.

Greenwood root canals are typically done as a last resort after other treatments have failed for damaged or infected teeth. During this procedure, Dr. Sanku will remove the infected nerve tissue within your tooth to save and protect it from further damage or infection.

The following information will help you understand the process, so you know exactly what to expect when getting a root canal at One Family Dental:
Step 1:
Diagnosis and Preparation – The first step in any root canal procedure is determining if one is necessary based on the extent of your dental issue. After making his assessment, Dr. Sanku will take X-rays of your mouth to get a better look at what is going on inside your teeth before beginning work on them; he may also use other imaging techniques like CT scans so he can see detailed images of your entire jawbone area and surrounding tissues for accurate diagnosis and treatment planning. You may also need to take antibiotics beforehand to reduce bacteria levels in the mouth before treatment.

Step 2: Accessing The Affected Tooth – Once he has determined that a root canal is needed, Dr. Sanku will use special tools to access the inside of your tooth by drilling down into it until he reaches the pulp chamber, which contains nerves, blood vessels and other tissues that are causing pain or discomfort; at this point, he can begin removing them one by one and cleaning out any debris or bacteria present in the area so that it does not become reinfected after treatment has been completed.

Step 3: Filling The Tooth – After all affected areas have been cleaned out, Dr. Sanku will fill them with either gutta-percha (a rubber-like material) or another type of filling material, such as composite resin; this helps protect against additional decay or infection. This also restores the normal functionality of your tooth, allowing it to continue functioning properly without pain or discomfort during everyday activities like eating or talking without worrying about further damage occurring again!

Step 4: Capping And Restoring Your Tooth – To help maintain overall stability and strength within your treated tooth, Dr. Sanku may choose to place a crown overtop it. This can depend on how much structural integrity was compromised by previous damage caused as a result of the initial issue leading up until now. This act essentially seals off exposed portions completely while ensuring no new bacteria can enter into those same spaces either (which would cause infection again). This shrouding also strengthens weakened enamel surfaces while protecting against breakage more robustly in the future too!
